Animal Behavior Research

Note: Applications for the Animal Behavior program not being taken at this time.

The animal behavior program provides training in a wide spectrum of fields, including but not limited to animal behavior, welfare, enrichment and training. Currently, both laboratory and field studies of animal behavior are conducted by students, using both naturalistic and experimental methodologies. Current emphases include cognitive processes and memory, social behavior, enrichment and environmental design.

Students in the Animal Behavior program are members of the Center for Conservation and Behavior. The Center's founding Executive Director, Terry Maple, is a Professor of Psychology and Elizabeth Smithgall Watts Professor of Conservation and Behavior at Georgia Tech and Director Emeritus of Zoo Atlanta.

We have strong affiliations to Zoo Atlanta and the Yerkes Regional Primate Center at Emory University, as well as opportunities to conduct field studies in Africa and China.
