When You Arrive

If you are an international student, you must report immediately upon arrival to the Office of International Education.

Once you arrive here, there will be a few administrative tasks to take care of:

  • Meet with your faculty advisor who may assist you with some of the following tasks or direct you towards important places or information, while also discussing general procedures, expectations and which courses you might want to take the coming term, and which meetings/seminars/talks you are expected to attend.
  • Obtain your "Buzzcard" (you will need some form of personal identification as well as your gtID#, that is, your Georgia Tech student ID number) http://www.buzzcard.gatech.edu/
  • Obtain keys to your office and the laboratory where you will work from the main office.
    • There is a refundable deposit of $25 (US) per key.
  • Activate your email account at the Office of Information Technology (located in the Rich building)
  • Attend several orientation programs which will familiarize you with campus organizations, locations, and procedures:
    • the School of Psychology graduate student orientation
    • the Georgia Tech graduate student orientation
    • if you are an international student, the international student orientation run by the Office of International Education (OIE).
  • Complete your Human Resources paperwork.
  • After your email account has been activated you may want to subscribe to a variety of email list servers.
    • you will automatically be placed on the School of Psychology list.
  • Obtain your IRB certificate. You will need to do this in order to run your own experiments.
  • You will register for fall classes during the School of Psychology's graduate student orientation.
