Joseph Sharit received his B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Psychology from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York., and his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. He is currently a Research Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Miami. From 1984-1996, he was a member of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he was also Director of Graduate Studies and Admissions.

In addition to his teaching activities at the University of Miami, Dr. Sharit is Co-Principal Investigator of Center for Research and Education for Aging and Technology Enhancement (CREATE). Dr. Sharit’s interests in aging research focus primarily on evaluating the capabilities for older persons to perform various types of computer-based work and information search and retrieval activities. Dr. Sharit’s other research interests include human reliability analysis, human-machine interaction, risk analysis, and system safety, and he has published a number of articles and book chapters on these topics. His research has been applied to medical, manufacturing, marine, nuclear, and aviation systems.
